To make your transition to Tanzania's time zone and climate as smooth as possible, we recommend that your safari kicks off with a visit to our national parks. Next, you can complete an acclimatisation climb of Mount Meru, before starting your adventure of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. After all that activity, it's time to relax on the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.

How you would like to structure your safari and combine your adventures is up to you, and African MANIA will work with you to ensure that no precious holiday time is wasted and most importantly, to ensure that we arrange a holiday you will never forget!

Inoculations

Consult your doctor or travel clinic about the required inoculations for your country, at least two months before you leave. Guard your vaccination record as carefully as your passport!

The most comfortable way to travel to Arusha, Tanzania, for the start of your African safari, is to fly directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport. The airport is located approximately 40 km/24 miles east of Arusha, halfway between Arusha and Moshi.

If you are arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, we can arrange your transfer to Arusha. By air, your transfer should take 30 minutes while by road, the scenic trip will take 5 to 6 hours (allowing 1 hour for the border crossing at Namanga, the border closes at 18h30 for foreign visitors, so take this into consideration when planning your journey.)

Flights leave daily from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. It is a 15-minute flight between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, while your journey between Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro International Airport will take 1 hour. Although busses do travel between some East Coast towns and Arusha, we do not recommend these journeys as they last about 8 hours, on sometimes very rough roads.

A ferry ride from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar will take about 90 minutes by normal ferry and 45 minutes if you prefer the slightly more expensive speedboat.

After your stay at the East Coast, it is also possible to fly home from Dar es Salaam International airport.

You can apply for your Tanzanian visa at a Tanzanian Consular in your country, but at the moment, tourist visas are still issued upon your arrival at any Tanzanian border.
